Mazingira runs environmental education and global citizenship education programs in 18 Tanzanian schools. The association’s trainers, supported by local teachers, give face-to-face lectures on the importance of the forest, strategies to conserve a good environment, sustainability, good practices and correct behaviour to follow when using natural resources.
In addition to lectures, Mazingira also offers interactive and participatory activities, such as debates,, workshops, documentaries night screenings, class trips to Nationals Parks and other activities to spread efficient and sustainable technologies among schoolchildren.
To make local teachers active players in the process of spreading environmental culture, Mazingira organizes training and refresher courses for them on issues of conservation and sustainability. Moreover, environmental clubs have been formed to manage tree nurseries and plant trees on school grounds to ensure firewood or cash income to the school itself.
